Today we visited the Aloupka Palace, built by a Russian aristocrat between 1828 and 1851. It is quite a place, designed by a British architect who also participated in the designing of Buckingham Palace. In 1945 it accommodated the British delegation to the Yalta Conference. We saw the "Winston Churchill slept here" room, among other things. We leave Yalta at 5:00 this afternoon so are posting our blog early, as we will probably lose our internet connection when we're at sea. We will be heading for Odessa.
The front of the castle is quite impressive. It is made of a stone quarried at Stevestopol. At one time over 1500 workers were employed in building it!
The rear of the castle looks out over the ocean.
This rear hall is decorated in Islamic fashion with "God is great" written on it.
The view of the mountain peak from here is tremendous!
Tom ended the day with a bottle of coke, a story on his nook, and a view of the bay!!
