Picked up a car at the airport this morning and left Dublin. Headed west to the town of Kinnegad, where Joe Sherlock's family was from. Didn't find any family connections of his, but enjoyed spending a bit of time in that village. From there headed south to Kilkenny. When we got to the old town there wasn't a parking space to be found, so we drove to our B&B where we checked in, afterwhich our very gracious hostess drove us the few kilometers back to Kilkenny. We spent our afternoon in Kilkenny touring the castle and its grounds, and then walking through the old city, which dates from the 12th century.
Back to the airport to get a car

Kilkearney's castle was built by the brother in law of Strongbow in the 1100's.
Cromwell attacked it in the 1600's and destroyed one wall - it still has 3 walls
