This morning we walked around the charming old city of Taormina, with its winding cobblestone streets and sidewalk cafes everywhere. We both got haircuts. We had to leave the hotel at 1:45 to catch our afternoon flight to Malta. The airport had been closed briefly due to the volcanic ash of Mt. Etna, so we we delayed in leaving by about a half hour. In honor of the delay I had a glass of Etna Rosso at the airport. Made from grapes grown in the volcanic soil from Mt. Etna.
The flight to Malta is less than 1/2 hr. The distance between the two islands is less than 60 miles I think. When we got there we checked into our hotel - what a dive!!! We had booked it online - as we do many things - but this was one time that it just wasn't working. Fortunately the "dive" was connected with an upscale hotel next door - so we were able to transfer our reservation - at a "modest" cost - to the other one. Funny, but the desk attendant didn't seem too surprised when we did this!

We spent the morning walking around the charming medieval city of Taormina.
Sandy and I both got haircuts. Mine cost $40 - not like in Lakeville.
